šBe a bounty hunter of persuasive ads
Itās Friday and we are 13 days away from Thanksgiving. Iāll be spending my Turkey Day on a beach. Donāt hate, Iāve worked 57 days in a row... totaling about 114 hoursš. I deserve a break.
Quick tip for you today you can use while kicked back in a recliner. But itās one of the most hard-hitting tips I can lay on you.
After that, we will squirrel-suit our way into this Weekās Marketing Wrap-Up.
Hunt for Insanely Persuasive Ads & Marketing Campaigns
This is the kinda treasure hunt thatās guaranteed to pay off. It wonāt just pay off, it keeps you from having to do all the thinking as a marketer.
When you start being hyper-aware of the best ads and marketing campaigns out there, you can swipe those ideas and put your unique spin on them.
Donāt copy āem. Do use their brilliance.
Iām not talking about pretty good ads. I mean look for persuasive ads you have to run away from so you donāt buy something you know you donāt need!
I had to do that last monthā¦
Persuasive Ad that Hooked Me Like a Largemouth Bass
Whatās my interest level in day trading? Below zero.
Thatās why I had to stop reading a sales letter about the topic on page 11 (of 22 pages).
I had been dragged into the origin story of this guyās buddy who had perfected a day trading system.
Hardly any stats or social proof were used in the pages I read. What was used was emotion. I felt the pain of the guy who had ground himself into the dirt to learn this system.
I had a desire to see how it turned out for him. Then I rememberedā¦ I had no interest in making money that way, and realized I had been hooked by a great ad, so I hid the letter under a pile of books!
To protect myself from a crazy-persuasive ad! I was about to be sold on something I cared nothing about, folks.
Spot those types of ad campaigns, and you have spotted a goldmine to use in your marketing efforts.
Persuasive Ads Come in Many Forms
Iāve told yāall before about my Dadās ability to get upsells and referral business in his house painting business. He didnāt use any pressure.
His only tactic was patiently chatting with homeowners he worked for (mostly telling them funny stories about his crew of misfits).
Those conversations turned into endless extra jobs for Dad.
Now, if I were one of those homeowners and realized what was gonna happen if I talked with this painter in my driveway for more than 20 minutes, I would have avoided those talks.
Because it was inevitable that I would be mentioning we should probably go ahead and repaint my kitchen āwhile you guys are already here.ā
Even if I had no plans to paint the kitchen when the other painting project began.
Persuasive Ads ā Size 12
Last example of spotting the most persuasive ads.
This guy I used to know. Real moron. But a heckuva salesman.
He used to work at a Foot Locker. They made commission on sales back then, I think.
When he chatted up a customer, only two things were gonna happen.
#1 They bought a pair of shoes
#2 They had to flee the store to NOT buy from him
I had no idea he was that persuasive until I was clowning him one day for losing a sale when a couple left without buying.
He said, āI know thisā¦ They had to get out of here to avoid buying something they had no plans to buy when they strolled in here just window shopping.ā
Persuasive Ads Are Not Everywhere
Thatās the only hard part of this tactic.
Decent ads are everywhere.
Heck, Iāve got a Google Drive full of them.
My folder of ridiculously persuasive ads is smaller.
To find persuasive ads and marketing campaigns that help you take your conversion rates through the roof, you have to get intentional about the search.
This is hard because youāre likely gonna want to swipe ads that appeal to you specifically or ones that are clever.
Try to focus instead on noticing persuasive ads that hook you and pull you in on products and services you were not looking for and not interested in.
Those are gold. Gold is rare. So look hard. Look in places you normally wouldnāt.
(Iāll locate some tools to help track down these nuggets and share them with you in a future edition of Inbox Hacking.)
