Hope y’all enjoyed the Olympics. America ended up with 40 gold medals, tied with China. Those speed climbers were spidermonkey-esque.
To start the week off, I’ve got a quick take on “grassroots” marketing. Then, I’ll drop a big-rig load of Monday Marketing News on your dome.
Preacher-man says…
It’s the end of time for marketers. Not really, but doom and gloom are always in the headlines. I did hear a preacher talk about growth yesterday.
Dude made a helluva mess tossing grass seed around for a visual metaphor, but made a solid point about growing an organization.
If your front yard looks like a dirt factory, you can’t just toss grass seeds here and there whenever you feel like it and expect a prized lawn to spring up.
Nope, you have to spread lots of grass seed in every part of your yard you want it to grow.
Half-measures don’t work for growing turf or growing a business.
You have to sow seeds everywhere to get the word out. And keep tossing seeds out as long as you’re in business. Because…
No matter how slick your plans and preparation are, some of those seeds you plant will never produce a thing.
Grass seeds get eaten by birds, are blown away, drought chokes them, heavy rains wash them away, etc. Some seeds don’t sprout, and there’s no explanation why. The list of things that prevent marketing efforts from paying off is even longer.
So it takes constant effort to become known and then stay relevant.
Oh, and half-measures that sorta pay off are worse than ineffective ones. Why? It can hold a business back because the owner sees “some” success and figures half-measures and half-efforts are enough.
They are not enough. Plus, there’s a bonus you get from max effort and trying to spread the word about your business EVERYWHERE you can.
You’ll find surprise successes you couldn’t have planned for.
See, grass seeds have a funny way of drifting into places they were not meant to take root and grow like wildfire—in sidewalk cracks, gravel paths, and mulch.
Your business might miss surprise successes if you don’t sow seeds everywhere possible and keep sowing.
