3 Things Marketers Can Learn from Theo Von

Short and sweet today, Inbox Hackers.

I doubt anyone on this planet (Earth) dislikes Theo Von.

He’s one of today’s top stand-up comics and hosts a top-10 podcast. The latter’s a huge accomplishment in a sea of 4.5 million podcasts.

A marketer? He’s not. Or not on purpose. But three of his best attributes can be used by marketers and business owners.

Let’s start with the obvious.

#1 I already said it. Likability. Dude is easy to like.

Lets his guests talk as much as they want to on his show. He’s friendly to all of them.

Treats the garbage man guest the same as the founder of Raising Cane’s.

#2 He keeps it real.

Actually, I doubt Theo can stop himself from keeping it real - to his own detriment sometimes, I bet.

Yeah, gobs of gurus today have murdered the word ā€œauthenticity.ā€  95% of them use it as a cheap buzzword.

If you have to use a fancy word like authenticity, you already lost me and most normal folks.

But Theo Von is real.

No one could make up a guy like him. Nearly all of his stories are about him doing stuff with average folks.

But the adventures are epic tales because he isn’t afraid to amp them up. Even the parts that would make a CMO cringe or a PR person clutch their pearls.

#3 Hard worker.

People who only found Theo in the past three years may not know how hard he works.

I first caught him on other people’s podcasts. He was a guest on a ton of them. I mean a ton!

And he co-hosted maybe three different shows at one point. Dude is not afraid of hard work.

Word of caution, though. He was nearly burned out at one point about four years ago. So, don’t take this ā€œgrindingā€ tip too far.

Final Word on Theo

I clearly left one of Theo’s best traits out. Dude uses humor like a boss.

But most people don’t have 10% of his talent for being funny.

However, I will give you one of his go-tos that anyone can use in their marketing.

It’ll help you get attention and even make people stop their scrolling to notice your brand.

Bonus Tip: Say the most unexpected thing ever. It’s as easy as using an outlandish metaphor or other comparison.

A couple of examples from Theo:

  • ā€œHe looks like someone who drowned but still lived.ā€ (clowning his co-host)

  • ā€œThey’re the limousine of rats.ā€ (talking about nutria rats)

The Wrap-Up is next, with plenty of short video clips today. Have some…
